Allergic reactions can range from annoying to severe, and any level of reaction can be stressful if you’re not sure how to deal with it. The same is true if you’ve recently had an allergy appointment, gone home, and found yourself with unanswered questions about your treatment plan.

At Carolina Asthma & Allergy Center, we believe those questions deserve quick, accurate answers. That’s why we provide a live answer system through our triage nurses. When you call us, a live, experienced nurse will answer your call to respond to your allergy questions, giving you the information you need when you need it.

With our live answer service, you can:

  • Call Carolina Asthma and Allergy and have your call answered by a real, experienced medical professional – not a machine.
  • Get in touch with a triage nurse before your allergy appointment with questions about preparation.
  • Ask follow-up questions after your appointment to ensure you’re following your treatment routine correctly.
  • Get in touch anytime with one-off questions or concerns about new allergy symptoms you may be experiencing.

One of the biggest benefits of our live answer service is the speed at which we can give you answers. If you are experiencing an allergic reaction, and are unaware of just how severe it is, our triage nurses can help you determine what’s happening and guide you toward the best emergency service to help.

The entire service is staffed by our triage nurses, who are specially trained to assist you via phone.

About Our Triage Nurses

Our triage staff are registered nurses (RN) with experience dealing with allergies and allergic reactions. They work with our physicians and patients both in-office and via phone to ensure patients have the best experience and allergy maintenance plan available.

Through our live answer service, our triage nurses are more readily available to our patients. You can call anytime for answers to your questions, although the two most common times patients call are before and after allergy appointments.

Before Your Allergy Appointment

Both seasoned and new patients call our service for answers, but our triage nurses are an especially good resource if you’ve never visited an allergy center before. Many new patients wonder what to expect ahead of your appointments. Should you bring anything? Be prepared in any way. Our triage nurses can walk you through everything that will happen so you’re more at ease.

After Your Allergy Appointment

In some cases, you may have gone to your appointment, felt a little overwhelmed, and forgotten some questions you had that you wanted to ask your allergist. Our triage nurses can help you get answers to your allergy questions that weren’t discussed during your appointment.

Allergy Recommendation Calls

In addition to times surrounding appointments, many patients call during allergy season looking for suggestions for relief, which our nurses are equipped to offer. Others, such as those on allergy shot regimens or new prescription medication, may have post-shot symptoms and aren’t sure if what’s happening is normal or not. Our triage nurses can go over the expected side effects, reassuring patients if reactions are normal and providing next steps if their side effects are out of the ordinary.

How Our Live Answering Service Benefits You

The most powerful benefit of our live answering service is the ability to speak to an expert when you need them. However, our live answering service also benefits patients in several specific scenarios.

More Accurate Diagnosis (Don’t rely on WebMD)

When experiencing odd symptoms, the first thing many people do is go to Google or WebMD. This can lead to self-diagnoses that are often incomplete, or even incorrect. By calling our triage nurses instead, patients can get real, actionable information and advice that applies to them instead of a blanket statement from a website. They can also get important advice on whether they need to schedule an in-office appointment to get a medical diagnosis from a physician.

Better Treatment Management

For those patients beginning a new treatment regimen for allergies or asthma, having someone there to manage their routine questions is great. It prevents them from going in to see their allergist more than necessary, saving them time and money. Also, the guidance from the triage nurses lets this patient know they’re doing just fine with their treatment. If they’re not, they can use the conversation they have with the triage nurse as a launching pad for changing their treatment with their allergist.

Faster Responses to New Developments

Should something ever go amiss, our triage nurses are a reliable first step for a fast, professional response. For unanticipated symptoms, their guidance can get a patient the right medical care they need. If serious reactions occur, the triage nurses can save the life of a patient if they call in right away.
