Biography
Krista Coppola Patterson, DNP, MSN, RN-BC, FNP-C, FNP-BC, brings nearly two decades of diverse nursing experience to Carolina Asthma & Allergy Center. She earned her nursing degrees from the Medical University of South Carolina, graduating Summa Cum Laude with her BSN and continuing on to complete her MSN and DNP in Family Nurse Practice. She is dual board-certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner by both the AANP and ANCC.
Krista has received extensive training in allergy, asthma, dermatology, urgent care, oncology, and family medicine. Her clinical expertise includes diagnosing and managing asthma, COPD, allergic dermatitis, anaphylaxis, and immunotherapy. She has a particular passion for biologic therapies, pulmonary function testing, and patient/family education. She is also proficient in office-based procedures including suturing, biopsies, cryotherapy, incision and drainage, splinting, casting, and joint/trigger point injections.
Krista has worked across a variety of nursing specialties throughout her career, including allergy, asthma, dermatology, urgent care, oncology, and family medicine. Most notably, she has dedicated more than a decade as a Clinical Nurse Advocate for breast cancer patients. In this role, she has supported patients and families across the continuum of care—acting as a strong patient advocate, coordinating tumor board discussions, providing education, and assisting in diagnostic and interventional procedures.
Her doctoral project focused on reducing the time from abnormal diagnostic mammogram to breast biopsy using Lean Six Sigma improvement strategies, successfully streamlining workflows to improve access to timely care. She remains dedicated to advancing quality improvement, patient-centered outcomes, and evidence-based practice.
Outside of clinical work, Krista is actively involved in community service, including philanthropic efforts with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, where she has been recognized with multiple Hero Impact Awards for advancing leukemia research. She is also an active member and volunteer for the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), and the Foundation for International Medical Relief of Children (FIMRC), as well as numerous local charities, where she participates in outreach initiatives to support families and underserved communities.
In her free time, Krista enjoys spending quality time with her husband, four children, two dogs, extended family, and friends. She is an avid tennis player, has a dedicated personal yoga practice, loves to travel, eat and ski, and continues to fill her bucket list with adventures alongside her family.
