General insurance information

The Carolina Asthma and Allergy Center endeavors to reach agreements to provide care on behalf of all managed care organizations which, in our opinion, allow our doctors to provide what we believe to be an acceptable level of care at a reasonable reimbursement level. We will act as a patient advocate and work with our patients and provide information and assistance required to obtain authorization for our continued services. Patients must be aware that final responsibility for keeping track of authorizations and expiration dates are their responsibility and that they are financially responsible for services received without an authorization.

While CAAC will make no positive or negative statements to patients in recommending purchase of coverage under specific companies and plans, the North Carolina Department of Insurance has published 2 brochures and 2 handbooks to help North Carolinians make informed decisions regarding health insurance. They are:

Guide to Health Insurance, The Consumers Right to Know
Guide to Appeals and Grievances, Your Rights as a Health Insurance Consumer
1999 HMO Performance Report, A Comparison of Health Maintenance Organizations in NC
1999 Managed Care Handbook, A Comparison Guide for NC Consumers
