Bio:
Dr. Maeve O'Connor is a native of Elyria, Ohio. She spent most of her childhood and formative years in Columbia, South Carolina.
Dr. O’Connor attended the University of South Carolina, SC Honors College in Columbia, SC, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish. Dr. O’Connor graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia, SC. She completed her internship and residency at the University of Texas and Affiliated Hospitals in Houston, Texas. She earned the honor of serving as Chief Medical Resident for one year in Texas prior to moving to Denver, Colorado, where she completed her Fellowship training at the National Jewish Medical and Research Center and the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver, CO. National Jewish has been voted the Number One Respiratory Hospital in the United States for the last thirteen years (www.nationaljewish.org).
Dr. O’Connor is a Fellow of both the American Academy of Asthma Allergy and Immunology (www.aaaai.org) and the American College of Asthma Allergy and Immunology (www.acaai.org). She serves as President-Elect for the Southeastern Allergy Society and is a member of the Clinical Immunology Society. Dr. O'Connor is a member of the American Medical Association and the North Carolina Medical Society. She is the President-Elect of the Mecklenburg County Medical Society and serves on several committees. Dr. O'Connor also enjoys membership in the Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network (www.foodallergy.org), the American Latex Allergy Association (www.latexallergyresources.org), and the Primary Immunodeficiency Foundation. She has published research articles on desensitization immunotherapy, asthma, and food allergy. She is currently involved in clinical research.
Dr. O’Connor is an adjunct professor at the UNC-Charlotte School of Public Health and is a preceptor for Pediatric, Family Medicine and Internal Medicine residents at Carolinas Healthcare Systems. She is one of the medical advisors for Parents of Allergic Kids, a support and resource group started by parents of food allergic children. She participates yearly in the Food Allergy Walk; she is the official Medical Chair for the 2011 walk this October. Dr. O’Connor performs volunteer Annual Asthma Screening events to help identify those patients in the community who may have untreated asthma. She also participates in Physicians Reach Out, a nonprofit outreach program that provides free primary and specialty medical visits to eligible uninsured residents in Mecklenburg County.
Dr. O’Connor is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Allergy and Immunology. She was named one of Charlotte's "Top Doctors" in Charlotte Magazine for both Adult Allergy/Immunology and Pediatric Allergy/Immunology in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. Dr. O'Connor is also listed in North Carolina’s Best Doctors 2010. She treats patients of all ages and is fluent in Spanish.
Dr. O'Connor and her husband enjoy traveling, cooking, decorating, throwing intimate gatherings with close friends and volunteering in the Charlotte community. They have two pets named Abby and Liza. They have traveled extensively both in the U.S. and abroad and look forward to expanding their travels in the years to come.
Dr. O’Connor is currently accepting new patients at the Ballantyne, Monroe, Concord and East 7th Street offices.
